Today, I was sending mails to the guild members..

Just an announcement for some guild activities. And it made me wish to have a group mailing feature in Guild Wars 2. Lol. Sending out 250 mails to guildmates one by one is no joke. x<

So I asked a review from a friend I invited to play the Free Trial ~

FULL POST WITH SCREENSHOTS HERE!

———————————————-

“I’ve been always wondering what’s the fuss about this MMO, Guild Wars 2? What’s so fascinating or how it will make me play and stay, maybe because I’ve seen too much recycled/facelifted MMOs. There comes a game I like… subscription based. There’s a free to play game… not so free to play after all. A lot of things can discourage me play a certain MMO. Here I will try to give you people a review of what I have experienced on that 3 day span though I may not be able tackle all the aspects of the game.

I’ve been eyeing on Guild Wars 2 since beta. I watched videos, looked for screenshots, and read reviews. The interest and urge to play it is there but the hindrance is GW2 being Buy to Play and questions such as, “Is it worth the time and money?”, “Does it have a long lifespan?” or “Will it get repetitive and boring?” keep on bugging me. If only I had a chance to at least try it.

THEN, there did came a time I get to try it. Thanks to Arenanet, existing users can invite 3 friends to try the game for 3 days (November 15 - 18). Special thanks to Jazzy (Celesica in GW2) for providing an invite which actually was intended for my other friend who will actually buy the game.

So me and my friend downloaded the client like crazy. Been thinking what character should we make or what should we do once we step in the world of GW2.

And so the day came we were like waiting for New Year since the trial starts at 1:00AM at our time (GMT+8)

Then character creation… call me a perv but seriously I was hoping there was something like “boob” customization LOL. GW2 has a wide array of customization but not as wide as the other MMOs I’ve seen, but nevertheless they have nice presets. They also have this background personality which they say will affect your personal story line, yes you have your own story line in GW2, ain’t that neat? There are 5 races and 8 different classes which you can mix and match. I googled up information about them before actually making a character and it appears that there are some skills that are only available for a certain race and that in GW2 they broke the tradition, Holy Trinity of MMOs - The Tank, Healer, and Damage Dealer which means you can be what you want on a certain class and race.

After character creation you’ll come across with a well made cinematic (which you will experience all through out the game), which is based on the details you provided in your character creation. I’ve never seen such an MMO “THIS” detailed when it comes to the Lore department, it’s like you’re playing Skyrim or Dragon Age as such and it excites me to play already. I strongly recommend to NOT to SKIP cinematics and NPC to Player conversations.

And finally, Inside the game. Honestly I thought the Sylvari I saw there were actual players but not. NPCs here are alive and not just those in other MMOs where they stand there all the time and say the same things. NPCs actually converse with each other which is neat. I strongly suggest that once in a while you eavesdrop their conversations because some of them either prove to be informative or downright humorous.

At first I didn’t what to enter combat that early, I had to see someone do the thing first before I try it. The combat is somewhat same as this-that-should-not-be-named famous MMO but with a mix of action combat which somehow same as this-that-should-not-be-named-MMO-about-dragons. Oh I forgot, NPCs here also fight hostiles whenever they come in contact just like in that… oh nevermind.

This patch: the problem is now the LOOT?

Purely based on my observations.

People are having problems with FotM because some players wouldn’t want to group with them. Why? Because these players couldn’t progress further and get BETTER LOOTS.

People are complaining about the Lost Shores finale one time event because of the SHINY LOOTS. The chance to get precursors, the guaranteed 20 slot bag, the accessory, and some decent exotic and rares. A lot of them got disconnected during the final part, and complained because they haven’t got the loots. A lot of them complained because they weren’t around the one-time event due to timezone differences. They didn’t expect that the rewards for it would be these ‘wondrous’ loots.

I thought this game is all about balance and being “fair and equal” in some way, wherein players wouldn’t feel inferior and superior to each other when it comes to gear/stuff, wherein there’s not much competition but cooperative gameplay. That’s why there’s level scaling. That’s why the leveling is easy because levels don’t matter a lot in GW2. That’s why most of the awesome stuff in-game and in the gem store are purely cosmetic.

But this patch: everybody is now fussing all about the loots. This has divided the community in some way. It makes me sad because I haven’t seen it coming. I don’t know if it’s just the players’ mindset or… there’s some sort of a mistake in here. :(

What I learned when I discovered that there’s a chance to loot “Precursors” in Ancient Karka One Time Event ~

And a lot of players are getting them, it’s kinda like..

1. “SUCKS! I should’ve been there but I can’t coz I have work/school/it’s too early/my timezone sucks.” - for those who lived at the other side of the planet, yep - no more chance for precursors for yah. It’s a one-time event!

2. “SUCKS! I didn’t get any loot at the end of the event after 2 and a half hours of doing it!” - for those who got disconnected

Why it sucks? If we know it’ll be something like the Mad King one, it doesn’t really matter. But if it’s about getting awesome shiny loots - especially the chance to get Precursors, main ingredient for legendary weapons which are still kinda pricey, this event really does matter.

Sadly, it’s a big disappointment on my part coz I get to experience both. :(

Got a really bad day and experience for the first time in GW2.

Spent 2 hours in this “one time event” which runs for a whole day though, but yep spent 2 hours, only to get booted at the end - the last part. NO LOOT. So we have to do it all over again. And there’s some of these guilldmates who wants you to repeat your questions in gchat for gazillion of times before they get you noticed (when obviously what you asked is about what they’re talking already). I can Google it, but like I said, I was doing a 2-hour event and the question was exactly related to what they’re talking about. It’s goes like this:

Guildmate 1: *shows off precursor*

Guildmate 2: Gratz man!

Guildmate 3: So nice!

ME: where did you get it? is that a reward from the Ancient Karka event?

Guildmate 1: Thanks guys!

Guildmate 4: Ossom gratz.

Guildmate 1: Thanks.

Guildmate 5: Great u got ur precursor.

Guildmate 1: Thanks.

ME: Guildmate 1, where did you get it? is that a reward from the Ancient Karka event?

Guildmate 6: My loots are trash.

Guildmate 1: Haha, I’m just so excited.

Guildmate 7: oh wow! gratz!

Guildmate 1: Thanks.

ME: okay, for the 3rd time, whoever can answer this, is that precursor from the Ancient karka event?

*still no one cares and continued*

ME: heellloo? am i lagging? invisible? hello?!

ME: okay so no one dares to answer because prolly they don’t know the answer.

ME: or maybe i just have to repeat the question all over again.

ME: i hope when someone asks twice (it’s i think ok to have the first question neglected), i hope somebody can answer him esp. if it relates to the topic of the gchat.

Guildmate 8: +1 @ Celesica

ME: k, i’l shut up now.

Guildmate 1 PM’d me: “hey sorry, i got so happy. i didn’t get ur question. what is it?”

ME answered directly in gchat coz no time to click and PM back: guildmate 1, i died. that is.

Guildmate 9: *asks a question*

ME: expect no answer guildmate 9. ur welcome.

AND YEP NOBODY ANSWERED HIM! WHATTANICEDAY! I may be exaggerating but because I’m this pissed off!

2 of my guildmates are about to finish their Legendaries.

I think they’re about to finish them later today if they get enough gold (because the only problem they have now is just the golds). When that happens, they will be the 6th and 7th members to have legendary weapons inside the guild, I guess. And the rest of the members will get more jealous. Lol.

Spent like 7 hours playing Fractals of the Mists, and boy, I really had fun!

Although me and my mates had no idea what to do, we tried to figure things out. There were funny moments while doing them, especially the Raving Asura part where some of my party members fell off the jumping challenge for a lot of times, and also the time when we have no armors left because all of our gears were broken, but we have to continue finishing the fractal, and proceed to the 3rd one because we’re afraid we’re gonna have to reset the whole thing again if we decided to go back to the lab. We survived without wearing anything!

I love the set up of these mini-dungeons. I love being a dolphin although I hate it when I die being one because I was so helpless (and I hate Kraits, I should’ve killed them but being a sad dolphin, I can’t). I love the challenge of taking back the Wisps to their rightful places but I hate all the traps everywhere! And oh, I really love the part where we wandered through the dark cold forest and we have to bring torches with us to light up the way, and we get to meet Veteran Svanirs and fight them. It was adventurous! Also the dredge one, where we have to pour oil to this Elemental. I did the job and made sure he’s gonna burrrn! Plus taking Ascalon as well, it was a deadly battle breaching the gate but was so easy when you’re inside, though I hate it being one of the Flame Legions.

I’ll have to do more tomorrow. I must rest now and check Tumblr for a while. :p

PS: Citizens Citizens Citizens Citizens Citizens Citizens Citizens Citizens Citizens!!! FINALLY HE SHUT UP!

So again, let’s just wait and see! #GW2LostShores

dirtyklingon answered your question:

i dunno how it gets any more clear than the blog post. exotics being the best stats in the game forever was a core selling point of the game.

spanex answered your question:

Yup, Tumblr’s best yo! :D I left Guru for the same negativity you are speaking of. I myself am excited for the coming update.

grumpyfox answered your question

Only if the new planet is made of chocolate, has rivers of coffee (possibly some Machiatto Falls too) and we can take GW2 with us. ;)

beccurz answered your question:

I plan to stay!

clockworkjackdaw answered your question:

I hear Neptune is nice and wintery year round.

vesper-bell answered your question:

Good for them cull the herd of dingbats we will be better off

pirpintine answered your question:

I really dont understand peoples outrage right now it’s crazy. GW2 is a great game and I’m excited for the weekend events!

xshinigami-chan answered your question:

Guild wars 2 won’t die to me. I welcome change and will continue to play it with pride and enjoyment

rkik-dnec answered your question:

I really don’t care about the new items, in my opinion the more important part of the patch is the new area we can explore.

rewywewy replied to your post:

Personally I find it silly. First people whine how there’s nothing to do end-game but getting prettier gear or better starts to rotate around the build of the month/week. Now they’re crying how their two month old habits are broken with new things.

olybib answered your question:

Good, let them leave. That means people can actually transfer to my server haha. I like all the new stuff in the content patch :P.

redhaireddork reblogged your post:

Eek this doesn’t sound good :sMaybe I should read what’s…update (small hiatus from gw2 atm cos I OD’d in it a bit XD) I love this game and I agree tumblr is awesome when it comes to gw2, I have yet to see anything negative.

silentpolaris answered your question:

People should at least wait until the patch goes live before complaining -_-

gnomeinthefridge answered your question:

Hi Celesica. Nice to see you everywhere. I see almost every GW2 picture that got likes, you will be in it! xD

teaandbickies replied to your post:

Some people are really melodramatic when it comes to these things. I mean, really guys, you’re saying it died? -___- I’m still very much addicted to GW2, and this hasn’t happened to me with other online games, other than GW1. It feels good! :D

thefourthwallmanor answered your question:

This sounds like the usual mess with MMOs. World of Warcraft ‘died’, like, six times, and yet people still play; so too will GW2 live on.

onebigpear answered your question:

I love GW1 and GW2 … I do not love the gear treadmill. I’m not rage quitting. Just some serious side-eye; waiting to see how it plays out.

The GW2 Tumblr Community is the nicest community I’ve been so far!

Not in Reddit. Not in Guru. Not even in the official forums!

Just a while ago, I was checking the forums and I was surprised to see the WHOLE GW2 Discussion corner filled with negativity about the Ascended gear and Infusion stuff. Most of them based their reaction through assumptions and judgments from the official blog post that has been posted today.

Worst thing I’ve read: GUILD WARS 2 DIED ON NOV. 13, 2012. REST IN PEACE.

People are leaving. People are asking refunds. People are transferring to another games. People are saying ArenaNet betrayed them. People are posting letters to Mike O’brien saying that he lied to their company’s manifesto. Etc, etc.

It’s so ridiculous! I mean, they didn’t even know EXACTLY what the future patch has in store for them. They didn’t have the experience yet how these mechanics and items function. They are whining in advance. It’s so funny and annoying at the same time. Lol.

I’m thankful that the GW2 Tumblr community has the most awesome players and people and positive community ever! Just seeing quaggan pictures makes my day. Lol.

So, GW2 will die in 2 days, they say. And I’ve heard that the world will end in Dec. 21, 2012. Should we look for another planet now? :))

“Always release a tiny bit of unexplained info, wait for internet explosion, then release details. Once more you deliver, ANet. ;)”

- Tanek

This made me laugh. And players are still whining about these things when they didn’t even know yet how these stuff work. xD

4 out of 5 guildmates have already been cleared from the “Banned for Botting” case.

And yep, it was all totally ANet’s mistake! Seems like farming in Orr can get you banned. Lol. The last guildmate was still waiting for his ticket to be reviewed.

Yesterday, I was checking out the official forums and found this ‘alarming’ comment from Gaile Gray.

“I personally avoid “bot hot spots” because (1) bots irritate me and (2) there probably is a slightly greater chance that one could be caught in a sweep. But having said, calling it a “sweep” does not suggest that we block everyone in a zone, or everyone at a certain node, or anything of that sort.” - Gaile Gray

SOURCE THREAD

“Sweep” what? This would prolly be the reason why my guildmates got banned at the same instant. :/ I hope they’re going to fix this fail system and improve their support. For now, I’m just happy they are now back and we’re waiting for the last guy.

17 minutes ago. Official Forums.

We know there are false positives. When you’re banning thousands, there is some chance that an innocent player will be banned. We regret that deeply, and we work constantly to improve the processes (which are not automatic, by the way) to avoid false positives.”

- Gaile Gray, ArenaNet Support Liaison

I hope our guildmates get justice as soon as possible. We don’t want to lose active and helpful players, and they are also great defenders and fighters of our server. :(

And we’ve been playing with them since the very beginning (the other one guildmate is a long time friend of mine). :(

On Account Banning and GW2 Support: excuse me while I write a sort of negative post

Last night, 3 of my guildmates were wrongfully banned for botting.

According to what they’ve told us, the error screen gave them this message:

Account has been terminated due to botting, extended unattended play, using macros, or similar behavior. Attempting to automate gameplay through any means or attempting to circumvent idle-time restrictions in any way and the closure is permanent.

Before I talk about that matter, I’d like to share an experience I had with Arenanet support.

About 2-3 weeks ago, the boyfriend’s account got banned and we didn’t know exactly why. So, we immediately filed a ticket with regards to the issue and asked about it. We expected them to reply to us in a few hours or within the day, but nope. Just three days later, support responded to us, telling us that they’re going to forward our ticket to the appropriate department. So, we said, “Okay. Just please keep me updated since I really don’t know what happened to my account and why it was banned.” A day later, support replied, asking us for some information and we provided them. BUT they still didn’t answer why the account got banned.

The next days were like torture to my boyfriend, and I must admit that I got really disappointed too. They never replied to us in 7 days. Everyday, we sent them emails asking for an update, even just a clue of what has happened, and what we can do to restore his account. We became really hasty to be honest.

I feel kinda bad about it because I was the one who kinda ‘forced’ my boyfriend to play the game even he didn’t want to, so we can just play together. I defended it to him and recommended it to a lot of people because I learned to love this game so much (as all of you know). I love Arenanet’s vision, creativity and ideas towards the game and how their fans keep telling us that ANet really listens to their players. But I never imagined that we’re going to experience the worst customer support service we ever had so far in a game. It was surprising to me.

We waited for like 13 days, with 7 days of no word from them. On the final day, support responded to us that the account has been restored and he can log into the game already. It was quite a relief, but the impression they left was really disappointing and frustrating.

And oh, the boyfriend never had experienced most of the Halloween events with his toon. Just Act 1 and the costume brawl. I just let him use my account so he can have fun for a while (girlfriend sorta saved the day), but I really sensed how bad he felt not being able to earn the Halloween achievements and get the weapons for his toon.

Fast forward today, so yep, 3 of my guildmates got banned for “botting”.

Not GW2 related but just this once, I want to congratulate Mr. President Obama for being re-elected!

I’m Asian (Filipino), but I’m so happy that he won in the elections. I have watched the debates he had with Gov. Mitt Romney (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and Obama still got my support. I may not be living in the USA and I may not know what or how the people there are experiencing, but I have witnessed how Obama has somewhat changed the world (foreign policy).

The wars in the Middle East that he stopped or somehow lessened, it has really helped a lot of the Overseas Filipino Workers there and get them back home safe. Osama Bin Laden’s death (who’s believed to be the person responsible for the 9/11 attacks) has also brought quite a relief to us Filipinos since our government believed that his death will eventually lead to the downfall of the Abu Sayyaf group (a terrorist group in the Philippines, Mindanao part where I currently am), which is linked to the terrorist leader’s al-Qaeda network.

Obama also extended an effort to honor the contributions and sacrifices of the Filipino veterans who fought under the US flag during the World War II by signing into law a provision that provided them their benefits and granting them the Congressional Gold Medal.

Just recently, Philippines got Chinese threats to take some of our territories away from us, but President Obama has been very supportive in terms of sending strong signals that the US will help the Philippines should China opt to be aggressive. We really don’t want China to grab our West Philippine Sea oil and gas rich territory.

Sorry if this post is kinda lengthy, but we Filipinos supported Obama, and we’re happy where he is now. We hope to see more of what he can do, not just for USA but also for their partner nations. Being the US President is definitely the most difficult job in the world.
